Dan is currently hiking in Yosemite National Park right now with four other guys. I took him to the airport last Thursday at 4 am and he is due to return on Saturday. While he is away I've been staying at my parent's house with the kiddos. My mom has taken this time off from work too which has been a huge blessing! I am so thankful for all of her help. I've also really been enjoying our evenings together after the little ones are in bed. I thought I would have lots of time to get things done at night while Dan was away but I am too tired to do anything but veg with my mom. We've been watching movies and eating way too much chocolate! Earlier today we took the children to the theater. REGAL theater near Eastview Mall offers free movies (one G, one PG) Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 am. For their first time in a theater, all four did great.
Dan called last night. They discovered they had a signal from the base camp they were in so they were all calling their wives. I wasn't planning on hearing from him, remembering he is in the woods on a very special trip with the guys but I can't say that I didn't mind either! I thought for sure I might cry when I heard his voice but I didn't. I can feel God working in me while He is away this time, straightening some things out in my thoughts, etc. I have so much respect for military families that deal with long stretches of separation.
But absence does make the heart grow fonder. :)
