The First Two Weeks

There are days I still cry.  Some days I can't believe he's mine.  One moment I'm overwhelmed by all the noise and craziness of five small children and the next I'm overjoyed by all the life in our home and wouldn't want it any other way.  And so it has been for the past two weeks:  good days, bad days and lots of inbetween days.  Some nights we think we've slept pretty decently only to be exhausted all day.  Many times I fall asleep while nursing my new babe on the couch.

Basically I sat in the same chair and didn't put him down for the first week.  My chair was right next to the door and after awhile I decided I needed a change of scenery so I moved to the couch on the other side of the room.  Meals were brought to us for eight days in a row and as it worked out, we were able to make the meals last for this entire week as well.  Dan did all the dishes, meals, took care of the other four children, swept, mopped and allowed me to enjoy Judah and rest the first week.  (Have I mentioned lately how awesome he is?!)

We also decided to send the older four to the daycare the first three days which worked out great.  This week I'm back "in the saddle" so to speak and am GLAD.  I LOVE serving my family and with such a helping husband it is a pleasure to now be able to take care of them again.  Well, I should mention I'm slowly starting to take care of them and household responsibilities again.  For instance, catching up on laundry.  Do you know how much laundry a family of seven creates in a week and a half?!?!  Wow.

To say we LOVE this boy is an understatement.  I will never understand how I am able to LOVE each child so much.  How does God do that?!?  There is no lack of LOVE from the other children either.  Silas wakes up in the morning and says "Ju-ah?" first thing.  None of my children have had the impulses to be mean or rough with a newborn.  Sure they get a little close, shove his bear in his face and might squeeze him a little too much but they LOVE him and are always giving him kisses.  Sammie likes to sing to him too.  Just today she helped me with changing his diaper by singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"; he stopped crying instantly.

It is amazing having a newborn again.  His smell, his soft skin, tiny toes, little noises.  I LOVE holding him close and nursing him.  He makes me slow down and literally sit down to enjoy him and watch the other four and fall in LOVE with each of them all over again and remember that there is nothing better than being a mommy.  Nothing.  In the whole world.  I am thankful for this calling on my life.  Thank you Lord for allowing me to be a mommy and a wife and for the opportunity to serve my family.  Even though I might not get much sleep :) .

  2. What a blessed reminder! Being a mommy IS wonderful, but sometimes it takes sitting down for just a minute to have enough time to remember the blessings that God has given to us! Kristen
