Local Life and Ministry

(taken from our September Ministry Update)

Above is a typical view from near our house in San Francisco, Paraguay.  A long way from West Coast USA our town is a rural community mostly comprised of subsistence farming families.  All our roads are dirt and naturally turn to mud when it rains.  Horses, pigs, chickens, and ox carts are the most frequent traffic that passes in front of our gate.  My favorite is when we get to see three yoke of oxen passing by to the neighboring saw mill.

Though rural life does have its challenges we have grown to appreciate many things about our home.  We have slowly been making the house and yard our own.  Sarah has been working hard with the kids to establish a home school routine that works with my schedule as I come and go for ministry.  San Francisco is central to all my ministry sights.  The local SIM church plant is located right next door to our house, so close that the youth group’s volleyball often gets knocked into our yard.

We have made many good friends through Iglesia Biblica Ka’aguy Rokẽ (Forest Door Bible Church).  It is a healthy cell based church plant that has recently grown independent from missionary leadership.  On Sunday mornings, children, youth, and families of all ages meet together under the trees.  This includes the church’s youth ministry which I am helping the church leaders develop.  We are grateful to be able to serve in and around this place we call home: San Francisco, Paraguay!
