Conversation with a Five Year Old

There is some "history" to the reason I said the first statement, so don't be shocked that I would say such a thing to my five year old...

Frustated that Eli was doing something that he knew better to not be doing...
Mom: Where is your brain?
Eli: In my head.
Mom: Oh (a bit taken off guard), that's good. Well, why don't you use it.
Eli: It went on vacation.
Mom: Then tell it to come back.
Eli: You can't. You have to ask it.

Seriously, did I really have this conversation with my five year old?!
