This year for our ninth anniversary we went back to a familiar place: The 'Just a Plane Bed and Breakfast' in Filmore, New York just several miles south of Letchworth State Park. It was familiar because this is where we went for our first anniversary and of the few B&B's we've tried this by far is our favorite place (we highly recommend it)! The house has been in the owners family for several generations as it was built by their grandparents. A patriotic theme compliments the inside and outside. We were able to enjoy a beautiful sunset in the gazebo our first night there.
The couple who run the business are very warm and personable and are a great cook and pilot. That's right, not only did we get to enjoy a delicious breakfast in the sun room the next morning but afterward we took a plane ride over the waterfalls of Letchworth. Though the couple now owns an open cockpit WWII trainer biplane we chose to go back up in the same plane we flew in 8 years ago: a small Piper Tripacer.
In a plane that small you can feel all the bumps on the grass runway that stretches across the front yard as well as in the air. This flight seemed noticeably rougher than our first one as the plane continuously pitched and turned as we soared over sprawling farm fields and the three large waterfalls of Letchworth gorge. This of course only made the flight that much more exciting for Dan (who is a Flight Simulator nerd) but for Sarah the waffles were asking her to land by the time we made our approach over the bed and breakfast. Nevertheless the flight was wonderful and Sarah snuck this mid flight picture without me noticing.
Then after checking out we made the short drive to the park where we enjoyed a picnic lunch and hiked to all three waterfalls we had viewed from a 1000 feet above only hours before. It was truly an anniversary to remember. Before leaving Just a Plane we thanked the couple and said , 'until next time'. Perhaps we will return in another ten years for our 19th.
You guys are amazing! We are so proud to be a part of your lives.
