Right now both of our moms are here. A Grammy and an Oma. Two grandmas. Rockin' grandma power going on around here the past few days! I sit at the kitchen table after breakfast and actually finish my cup of coffee while they help clean up and tend to the children. One night after dinner all the kids had already been bathed, dinner eaten, everything cleaned up, teeth brushed and we were sending the kids to their room for bedtime when I looked at the clock and it wasn't even 7:30 pm yet (bedtime is 8 for the younger ones on a good night; 9 for the big boys). Oh, it is wonderful and the kids are having a blast!!! We have only two short weeks with them so we are making the most of spending time with them by not running around too much and hanging out a lot. One thing we thought would be neat to do while they are here though is find out if we are having a boy or a girl.

My teammate Amy recently had her seventh and I was privileged to be a part of a gender reveal for her. Along with the help of my super creative hubby we put together a fun show for her. So naturally when we found out we were expecting again she asked if I wanted a gender reveal, warning me that it wouldn't be a rap song/dance like what we did. Now, I LOVE to surprise people but I'm not sure how I feel about being surprised. But I wanted to be surprised. And I told her I was fine with just a cake reveal; something simple.
Today was the day. We were invited to their house for lunch with the reveal to follow. For probably like the first time ever we arrived exactly, on the dot, to when we were asked to come. I stuck cotton in my ears and hummed a prayer to myself while Amy's husband Jeff checked the gender on the ultrasound in his mobile clinic. We sat and drank terere for awhile, had a delicious lunch, chatted a bit more when Jeff suggested we get the festivities started. It wasn't going to just be a cake reveal :).
It was even better and I loved every minute of it!! Amy is so creative. We were sent on a scavenger hunt full of clues and fun games that all of us, kids and grandmas included, had to participate in. That was the best part. All of us working together.
The final clue took us to the fridge where I pulled out a plate full of cupcakes. On the count of three we all took a bite and...
Congratulations on the news that you will be blessed with a daughter. I am sure you are all pleased. Enjoy the time with the grandmothers. Hermien (Oma) and I are in Oakland with Mike and his family enjoying some time with our grandchildren there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. Dave and Hermien
