Last Friday we drove down the rough, bumpy dirt road 45 minutes to San Francisco, home to our teammates the Floyds. We were going to have a team meeting with all of the rural missionaries. I was really looking forward to this afternoon as it had been a while since our family was with so many of our teammates at once because we weren't at the annual Spiritual Life Conference (we had been in the city awaiting Silas's arrival). Eli had been asking to play with David, the Floyd's youngest son of the same age, for the past two weeks. We briefly crossed paths while we were still in the city but Eli never really got a chance to play with his friend. As we turned the corner on the last stretch to their house, Eli and Toby started chanting "we want to play with David!" I told them their friend Caleb would also be there and so they added his name. I didn't see them for the rest of the afternoon except when we had lunch and then because we all stayed so late, dinner before packing back into the truck for the ride home.
It had been raining all week so we were all so thankful for the warmth and sunshine that day as we sat outside for lunch and then gathered in the sunshine for coffee and a time to pray for each other (though the wind did eventually drive us inside where the Floyds have a wood burning stove).
God knows our needs, each and every one of them and He knew I needed a day like this. There is something refreshing about sharing a meal and good conversation with our teammates, our family away from family.
was it strange for him to be there and Tyler not be there?
