Making God’s Word Heard in Rural Paraguay

Though we didn’t think we would be able to participlate, at the last minute a meeting got rescheduled and we found ourselves in the middle of a large-scale audio bible distribution in our town of San Francisco. A dream of our director and teammate, Tom has organized the recording of the entire Bible in Guarani and found the perfect device for playing it on. Ultimately he wants to put one million bibles in the rural homes of Paraguayans.

Already thousands of audio bibles have been distributed and we added to that number as we helped hand out over 700 in San Francisco and its surrounding communities in just one day! 

Nearly 80 people made the trip to our rural town to make this possible, some even drove through the night- handed out bibles all day- then hopped back on the bus to drive through the night again! We actually got to sleep but by the end of the day were still exhausted. I discovered new corners of our community as I drove Cesar, David, and others to houses that were off the map.

And by off the map I mean when we got to the end of the road we turned left and headed through a field until we got to the edge of the woods where of course we kept going until we got to a stream where we got out and walked up a hill and through a cow pasture where we found a family living in a wood house with a straw roof.

After drinking terere Cesar told them he had a gift. He showed them how to use the audio bible and then left it in their hands. We then made the trip back.

By the end of the day Cesar and I had handed out 30 bibles. The distribution was not only a great outreach, but it was also an incredible opportunity for Paraguayans to come together and serve as the body of Christ. Young and old got involved from rural and urban communities- it was great!
