It's a Small World After All

Today's world is getting smaller and smaller thanks to technology. I certainly am glad that God has called us to be missionaries during this age of email, skype and blogs. Blogging, especially when we were in Paraguay, has become a huge outlet for me (when I have time); one that I am thankful I discovered. Since entering the blog world I have also discovered a few other blogs that I enjoy following and I have to share one of them with you.

It all started with facebook. One of my friends listed on my page was tagged by someone else so I had access to the picture. It was a wedding picture and I am a sucker for wedding photos so naturally I followed the link to the photographer's website. I was hooked. I LOVE her photos, not just of weddings but of babies, children, families and since discovering her personal blog, life in general. Her pictures are inspiring and I appreciate her extreme honesty. So one day I emailed her. Wouldn't you know that she knew of me? Apparently she grew up in the same church as Dan and was on the missions committee with Dan's dad. Small world.

Since I started reading her blog she moved to Florida. Naples, Florida. So after our adventure in alligator land, we rushed back up to Naples to meet her and her family in person. Of course somehow we were running late (that never happens to us does it?!?!) which meant changing and getting ready in the car. It was very special that I got to meet Rachel. I tend to go on two extremes when I am nervous: either I talk fast and a lot or I don't talk at all. Guess which one I was this time?

Rachel was every bit as sweet and genuine and real in person as she seems on her blog. And she fixed a feast for us. And she didn't seem to mind the craziness that ensued as my three wild children invaded her home. She even made time to sing Happy Birthday to Toby.

If you like her photos and style, check out the workshop that she is going to hold right in the Rochester, NY area. She will be in the area shooting a wedding in May and is putting together a workshop to share what she has learned. She is self taught and does great work. Check out the pictures she took of our visit. What a great chance to glean some wisdom on a personal level with a professional photographer.

Thank you Rachel (& Michal) for the pleasure of meeting you and sharing our ministry with you!

  2. It's awesome to read you blog. If you are still in Virginia, I would like to visit with you about Paraguay. I'm with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and looking at possibly working to develop partnerships in sports ministry in Central and south America.
