Yesterday, January 6th, was Three Kings Day. This is when the Paraguayan children get their presents rather than on December 25th. Dan had gone out to Naymby to pick up some people and things for the Youth Camp and the three children ran up to him to show him their newly found gifts. The tradition is that the children leave their shoes out with some straw over night and the Three Kings along with their camels come by and leave gifts.

As he was leaving, Dan jokingly said that he too had left his shoe out last night in hopes that he would get a BIG gift. Everyone laughed. (Paraguayans often call Dan '
Daniel py puku guasu' meaning
Daniel Big Long Foot!!)
My husband grew up with this tradition in Spain, as well. Instead of the shoes though, the gifts were left under the nativity.
