Family Day Monday

A day when we turn the phones and doorbell off, a day when Dan doesn’t go anywhere or have to do anything, a day when we are together as a family. The children get our undivided attention and get to see mommy and daddy together all day. Many times we sleep in on these days (as much as you can with a four year old, three year old, and 19 month old and you are eight months pregnant) and then have a late leisurely breakfast followed by family devotions and a time of worship.

After one year of being here we realized we needed to set aside a specific time like this day to protect our family. With constant interruptions, changes in schedule, traveling: Dan going here and there all week long, busy weekends, ministry needs, we learned early on that these days were essential to our survival as a family for the rest of the week. We welcome Mondays!!

Today was a rainy Monday so we spent the morning under warm wool blankets reading books and looking at old magazines. My children LOVE books so it was a nice feeling to look around the room and see everyone enjoying being together. Then Dan spent some quality time mattress wrestling with the boys, always a favorite request! After lunch and quiet time we had snack, visited with the Dreilings (there are always exceptions: early this evening our director and his wife needed to stop by to fix a headlamp on their way back to Asuncion after helping other teammates of ours move this weekend) then Dan made pizzas with the boys’ help. We always eat our pizza in our living room while watching a movie. Traditions are important to the kids and to me and I look forward to how these days will continue and change as the children grow.

Teeth are brushed, jammies are on and the kids are in bed now listening as Dan reads to them. He just finished The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and is currently reading A Horse and His Boy.
