Veranillo de San Juan

It is winter here in Paraguay which usually means lots of layers, flannel sheets, and wool blankets and socks but not today or for the past three days! We are having what is called “little summer of St. John” or an Indian summer. We have had a wonderful break in the coldness with the sun shining high, clear blue skies and pleasant breezes. This means that my towels have dried, laundry has dried quickly, windows are opened to let in the fresh air and the children have been running around playing outside practically all day until it gets dark at 5 pm! (If you are interested in what our current weather readings are check out the new link we added to the right hand side.)

Because houses here are built more to accommodate the many long hot months, the difference between the temperature inside and outside is minimal. We are fortunate enough to be living in a mission house so we do see a slight difference when we come inside. I am especially comforted when I check on the children at night to find them still under their covers, even little Sammie.
And speaking of Sammie…she is not so little anymore! I took these photos of her just today and even Dan commented on how grown up she looks!

  1. She does look all grown up! :( I'm sad now... I need to see my little Sammie girl again and soon.
