11 Days Before Christmas...Looking Back

FEBRUARY 2012

At the end of last month, Jan, 29th to be exact, we got a call from another teammate suggesting we consider moving to San Francisco:  there is a vacant mission house, it is central to all the locations Dan would be traveling to, we would have teammates (a family with six kids, some our children's ages).  Truth be told it had never even occurred to us to consider this town.  We had it set in our minds to live near the mountains; near the camp property.  We'd been dreaming of it since 2010.  But, it made sense.  We had to consider it.  Another big factor is that we wouldn't have to do anything to the house to make it livable for us.  Just paint.  So, we prayed.  Teammates prayed.

We went to the city, celebrated Dan's birthday and then it was decided:  Houghs are moving to SF.  As Dan was finishing up classes, we prepared to move to SF.  We packed up from A.L.M.A. and drove to see the house, took notes on what needed to be done before we moved in, decided to paint, started thinking about kitchen cabinets and a sink (they had been removed) and returned to the guest house.

I enjoyed some girl time with good friends and my sweet daughter.

Judah turned six months old and tasted his first solid food:  bananas! (Sam had had her first food at the guest house too).

Dan got some funky eye infection.

At the end of the month we made the six hour trip to SF, stayed with future "town"mates and began painting the front room, kitchen and laundry room."Town"mates, teammates, our mission is awesome!  We couldn't have done any of this without them.  For two days Amy watched all of my kids, even nursing JJ (who I pushed to wait for me a bit longer than usual because once you start painting it is hard to step away till you are done!).

Jeff helped us paint after long days in his mobile clinic.

Jean drove over an hour to help us all day...in her old house.

Invaluable they are.

Here I am painting where my future cabinets go and Dan is up above.  Like the blue?  It's a subtle bluish grey.  After years of working in a paint department I've become a bit particular about the exact shade of colors.  At least I was about this.

And the walls were done.  Next up:  the floors.

Come join us.  You won't be disappointed.  We babysit, paint, cook...well, some of us ;) .
