4 Days Before Christmas...Looking Back

SEPTEMBER 2012

My first born turned eight!!  Yikes.  What a young man he is becoming, already!  He is all boy.  Tough, strong but a deep thinker and reader, always asking questions and sharing with us what he learned from reading.  He is the leader and a great help with Judah, calling the two of them the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the A and the Z.  Cute, huh?  He got a guitar for his birthday and is learning how to read music and play.  We went camping with teammates again to celebrate his and two of his friend's birthdays, camo style.

He also completed all of his second grade work this month.  With all the moving over the past year, I am so proud of the hard work he's done and that he finished well.  He is now in "third" grade.

Look!  My Santa Rita plant was in bloom.  So pretty.

Silas filled his potty chart and got to pick out a special toy and JJ found a favorite spot in the kitchen, right next to the sink.

Sammie learned how to swing all on her own and lost her first tooth!  She lost it during the night and just put in under her pillow.  No money in the AM.  Oops.  Just told her no one had known about it.

I finally made curtains for my kitchen while Dan took a bunch of youth to a concert and with Dan's help (he designed it), figured out what I wanted for a shelf.

Dan got his wisdom teeth pulled (ouch!) and Eli went to the dentist for the first time!  He did a great job.  No freaking out occurred.  Ah...he really is growing up!

Dan began his training this month, handing out the first books.  He was so excited!!  There was also a baptism at church.

I decided I was going to start reading through the classics and made it through Pollyanna and Rebecca of Sunny Brook Farm before I realized I needed to read someone I could relate to a bit more.  Me, a Pollyanna?  A Rebecca?  Hahahaha...not.  But I can learn from them yes.  The Glad Game is a great one...kind of like our family treasure hunt.  But after that came Jane Eyre.  Ahh, yes.  A kindred spirit.  A great book.  A must read.  So, after Charlotte Bronte I thought I'd check out the book by her sister Wuthering Heights.  Ouch.  That was tough read.  A hard book to finish because it was just awful.  Until I started reading some literary reviews online and got a sketch of the synopsis, a more in depth look at the characters and parallels, I really wasn't understanding it.  Still wouldn't recommend it but now I know who Catherine and Heathcliff are....NOT a good love story.  I much prefer Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, thank you very much.
